Lucy was now just over a month into her pregnancy. She was happy. Her life was happy. She had Chris and now she was going to have his child.
Chris was taking his role into fatherhood very seriously. He'd bought various books on childbirth and was always giving out bits of information, sometimes to much information.
"Hey it says here that you should massage oil into your stomach and breasts, it helps to prevent stretchmarks. You know how much I wanna help, maybe this could be my job?" He'd say with a glint in his eyes.
They talked about the nursery, colour and design, about names. Lucy cried when Chris suggested Jeremy for a boy. She loved the idea but told him maybe as a middle name.
Chris never mentioned going back to the navy and Lucy didn't bring the subject up, although fear about him going back had crossed her mind. Maybe it was what had happened to her brother had caused her to worry.
Their parents didn't even know about the pregnancy. Lucy wanted to wait till she was about twelve weeks just to be safe.

Chris had gone grocery shopping. Lucy wasn't in work. Instead she was at home doing some accounting for work on her computer. Lucy decided to take a break and made a coffee. She bent into the fridge to get the milk and upon rising stopped dead in her tracks. A pain in her side caught her, winded her. "Must have got up too fast" she said to herself and holding her breath and her side slowly got up. She made her way to the sofa and curled up on it and made herself comfortable.
Chris came back with the shopping.
"Hey, you ok?" he asked.
"Just got a bit of an ache. I'll be okay, probably settling pains."
"You look pale."
"I'm fine. It just gave me a shock thats all. Don't forget my body is making room for this baby. My internal furniture is being moved around."
They both laughed.
That evening Lucy went to bed early. Lately she was tired and was sick of starting to watch an evening movie, just to miss the ending by falling asleep.
Chris joined her and switched on the TV in the bedroom.
"You don't have to turn the sound down. I'll be asleep in no time." said Lucy as she got undressed. She stood naked in front of the full length mirror and started to study her side profile. Chris who was still dressed came up behind her and kissed her left shoulder, while he moved his arms round her waist and breasts. Lucy closed her eyes and leaned into him. Chris lightly brushed his hand over her "bump" and with the other gently caressed her breasts. She started to breathe more slowly and deeply as Chris kissed her neck.
"You sure you wanna sleep?" he breathed. Lucy let out a sigh of satisfaction as the hand over her "bump" gently lowered itself. Lucy opened her eyes.
"I'm sorry, I can't. I'm so tired." She pulled away from his hold and made her way to the bed and started to put on her bed clothes.
"You were enjoying that." said Chris undressing.
"I know and I'd enjoy it even more awake. You know how tired I've been lately. I'm sorry, maybe in the morning. Just hold me and let me fall asleep in your arms".
They snuggled up together and Lucy stroked his chest. "I love you so much." she said holding him tighter. Chris kissed her hair. "I love you too."
Next morning Lucy woke up with a start. The pain she had felt the day before was back and stronger. She looked at her alarm clock. It was 5 o clock. Her bladder was telling her she needed the bathroom so she made her way there.
As she was sat on the toilet she noticed blood on her legs. Upon further inspection there was blood in her bed shorts. Lucy started to shake and wonder what was happening. She got up off the toilet and looked. All she could see was blood. Lucy began to feel faint and started to cry.
Then she started to scream "Chris, Chris!!!"
